What A Wonderful New Day To Love Dogs!
Today is New Year's Day 2017 with a full kennel of dogs boarding over the Christmas holidays at Harmony Farm Kennel And Lamb, near Kamloops, BC. It's a beautiful winter wonderland, warm and snowing big fluffy flakes that whiten my hair (more),create a thick soft powdery blanket on Emma's coat as we walk through the pastures one last time before her owner comes to pick her up from her Christmas vacation with us at Harmony Farm Kennel & Lamb. She is such a feminine and sensitive creature - silken coat and big liquid brown eyes that seem to look straight through me. Some dogs are like that - it's like they can see through you to forever and then some. I especially love these dogs and that watery type of sensitive spirit in horses too come to think of it.
About an hour later her owner rolls up and we have a nice meet and greet, load the doggy vacation bag full of Emma's favorite bone, beloved stuffy, food and shiny powder coated dishes. Emma comes bouncing out to welcome her Mom and happily jumps into the family car. I give Emma a stroke and say, "You're welcome back anytime beautiful". Emma lets out a little squeak, as if she knows exactly what I mean. Funny that I am not surprised at an 'answer' I think.
As the car pulls away, I wave "see ya' later beauty" when suddenly the owner stops, backs up, rolls down her window and says "Well, that's a first...Emma is crying and wimpering for you - she doesn't want to leave!" She quickly jumps out to open Emma's back door. The dog leaps over to me knealed down, stops dead, looks directly into my eyes and wraps her head and neck around mine ...a tear rolls down my cheek as I whisper to her, "Thank you for that". Emma rolls back and contently trots over to get back in the car. Her owner just smiles giggling, "we'll be back" as they roll away with Emma gazing at me quietly out the window. What a dog - what a gift! What a way to start the New Year!
