I Think She Went That A Way!
All Dogs Love Our Country Vacation Destination At Harmony Farm Kennel And Lamb, located at Monte Lake, BC but sometimes dogs do get distracted! Sometimes dogs get so excited at the distraction that they have a sudden hearing loss. Sometimes dogs get so excited at their distraction that they suddenly not only hear nothing, particularly you hollering at them, they simply drop their nose to run the other direction!
Hence, we ask that upon arrival our customers with dogs for boarding, park in front of Harmony Farm's huge cedar doors and that vacationing dogs either stay in the vehicle or be kept on leash, until we greet them upon their arrival. Being a countrified acreage destination, not to mention a farm full of fascinating smells, sounds and sights (in that order usually),most dogs instantly find all kinds of interesting distractions to stimulate them, very first thing. That would explain the 'kept on a leash' part of our arrival request. Sometimes... well, people are anxious to get their dogs settled and excited begin their own vacation and... sometimes, they just forget, at least once anyways.
Today a gal forgot. “A black dog?” Gerry calmly answers the voice shouting excitedly from the driveway. “I think she went that a way... at a high rate of speed”, he points just as relaxed as can be. “Let me know when you catch her and are ready to get her settled in” he adds, going back to his work, shaking his head with a funny little smirk, muttering to himself, “I bet she put on her form "has a great recall, all the time”. Off the lady ran down the driveway, shouting and hollering, waiving her arms in jest, stopping to stomp her feet with demands at one point, as her dog just sniffed and smelled and happily ran, every which way but loose.
After a while the gal jumped in her car, relieved with her own brainstorm idea saying with excitement, “this will work, she always comes when she sees me driving away”. Well, a few drives up and down the driveway, forward and back, finally she parked and just sat. Head down, she waited, and she waited. In a while, in her dog's good time, the black beauty reappeared, body and tail wiggling and waggling as if to say, “Wow, Mom wait till you see and smell what I found!"
Gotta love 'em, even when they're distracted. Worse, when they finally get bored enough to make their way back to you, you've got to greet them with a happy happy face and be a great fun place to come back to, as if nothing happened at all! Silly dogs.
