Dog Picks At Food And Takes All Day To Eat
Our dog only picks at his food and takes all day to eat and then doesn't eat very much.
Answer: All puppies and dogs need proper meal times, in my opinion "grazing" is not as healthy as 2-3 meals a day. Puppies up to the age of 6 months need 3 small meals a day after that it can go to 2 meals. With my dogs, I feed them breakfast and dinner, They have 5 mins to eat it or I pick it up and they get it the next meal. I actually don't have that problem as my dogs know if they don't eat their own meal there is another dog just waiting in line, lol. But for single dog households it is good to start this pattern so that meal times mean something to you dog. Most dogs will not starve themselves and so when you start this regime, they may go a couple of days to see if you actually mean it and then they will eat their food. The exception to this rule is senior dogs...as they become older some food upset their tummies and not eating can be sign that something is wrong. So I do not apply these rules to old dogs.
